On Saturday, March 28th, Steve Brisson of the Mackinac State Historic Parks will be giving the morning key address—”Redcoats and Rebellion: Mackinac and the American Revolution”—from 9:00-10:00 A.M.. Steve Brisson is also the author of Architectural Missionary: D. Fred Charlton in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, 1887-1918 (2021) through the MSU Press.
“While on the periphery of the conflict, the American Revolution had a profound impact on life at Mackinac. Maintaining open trade routes was vital to ensuring the loyalty of Native-American allies to the British Crown, and war parties traveled great distances to engage the American rebels. However, the most significant consequence was the decision to relocate the fort from the mainland to the more defensible Mackinac Island.”
