Michigan State University Press is pleased to announce a new book series on “Ecological Rhetorics.” Building on the press’s existing strengths in rhetorical and environmental studies, the new series will be edited by Joshua Trey Barnett, associate professor at Pennsylvania State University and award-winning author of Mourning in the Anthropocene: Ecological Grief and Earthly Coexistence (MSU Press, 2022) and editor of Ecological Feelings: A Rhetorical Compendium (MSU Press, 2025).

“By analyzing the manifestly diverse ways that collective life on Earth is enabled, constrained, and shaped by rhetoric, and by eschewing anthropocentrism and anthropoexceptionalism,” series editor Barnett said, “we expect books in the series to light the way toward a more just earthly coexistence for Earth’s inhabitants, human and more-than-human alike.”
“The field of environmental rhetorics continues to grow in urgency and relevance, and MSU Press is thrilled to contribute in meaningful ways to ongoing and new conversations. We look forward to partnering with Joshua to spotlight innovative scholarship and amplify both emergent and established voices,” said Senior Acquisitions Editor Judith Lakamper.

The series editor will review proposals on a rolling basis. Proposals should include a description of the book’s argument, contribution, and/or intervention; a detailed chapter-by-chapter summary; a discussion of related texts; a description of the book’s audience and technical details about the manuscript. Proposals should be accompanied by a draft of the introductory chapter and at least one body chapter, as well as a CV of the author(s) or volume editor(s). Prospective authors can find additional details about submitting to MSU Press here.
